Invitation to the Marg Barry Lecture

Inner Sydney Voice invites you to the annual Marg Barry Lecture on Thursday October 25 at 4pm, 2nd floor Redfern Town Hall (73 Pitt Street) given by Tim Vines, from Civil Liberties Australia, who will be discussing “Free Speech vs Hate Speech”.

Rod Haslam, a Volunteer Distributor, has committed to making deliveries in Surry Hills each month. He delivers more than 700 papers to readers on the Northcott estate and surrounding area, including Surry Hills Library. Thank you Rod!

And thank you Louisa, our Assistant Editor extraordinaire, for helping in so many ways, always ready to contribute copy, jump in and out of the delivery van, lend a supporting hand to a fellow volunteer, and help keep us all focused on community values.


Carers Day Out – Tuesday October 16, 10am-2pm

Redfern Community Centre, 29-53 Hugo Street Redfern.

To celebrate National Carers Week October 14-20, Carers NSW and the City of Sydney have organised this free event. Carers will be able to join in activities, performances, stalls and eat delicious food. If you are a carer, or know a relative or friend who is, please let them know about this, so that the community can show how much they are treasured and appreciated.


Sculpture by the Sea – October 18 to November 4

This year celebrates the 22nd annual exhibition of outdoor artworks on the Bondi Beach to Tamarama Coastal Walk. There will be 100 sculptures by artists from Australia and around the world and the 2-kilometre sculpture park is reputed to be the largest free sculpture exhibition in the world.


Marrickville Festival – Sunday October 21, 9am-5pm

Marrickville’s biggest festival kicks off again this year in Marrickville and Illawarra Roads. There will be 120 stalls, plenty of music, International Dance Floor, and The Break music competition. Also plenty of activities for children and the whole family. Check for programs on the various stages.


School holidays finish on October 14, so a safe return to school and good luck to all those students studying hard for HSC exams.
