It was great to see so many volunteers at Charles Kernan Reserve for our picnic. Some enjoyed meeting fellow volunteers for the first time. The weather was sunny and mild, just right for fresh bread and hot veggie soup (thank you Breadfern and Tripod Café). Aunty Norma Ingram’s Welcome to Country acknowledged inspiring Indigenous women such as Barangaroo, and Elders from all cultural backgrounds. Damien and Julie Patterson excelled as games coordinators – there were balloons, hoops, rice-bags, three-legged races and more! Congratulations to all participants! Thank you to Louisa Dyce for planning and guiding the event.

ABC War on Waste Tuesdays 8.30pm

Following on Plastic-Free July, the ABC is airing season two of this popular program. If you watched the first episode you will have been astounded at the havoc caused by dumped plastic bottles in rivers and waterways and thence carried out to oceans. This is a call for us all to do our bit, and also a reminder that: Keep Australia Beautiful Week is August 21-27.

Don’t forget Cancer Council Australia’s Daffodil Day on August 24. Every small donation helps this organisation with the support they give to those suffering from and recovering from cancer.

And don’t forget Father’s Day is Sunday September 2.

Pick up your copy of the SSH from: Juanita Neilsen Community Centre, Frisco Hotel, Smashed Burger and Harry’s Café de Wheels in Woolloomooloo, Wayside Chapel and the Kings Cross Community Centre (Rex Centre) in Potts Point.

Until next time,

Pat Clarke
