Every time a tree is cut down in the inner city, it is a trauma for everyone whose life it enriched. The losses of nature that city people have suffered over the past eight years have been terrible: century-old figs and bushland remnants swept away for motorways, trams and housing blocks.

Morandir Armson knows the facts on fruit bats and is Sydney’s real-life “Batman”. He is a WIRES (Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service) volunteer and is so passionate about saving these misunderstood mammals that he has transformed the larger of his two bedrooms into a “bat cave”, which has been a healing haven for the last three years.
